Sothebys.com - Collecting Guides Part of the online magazine Sotheby's Connoisseur, these guides "provide essential background for both new and seasoned collectors." Objects covered include Asian and European furniture and ceramics; clocks, watches, jewelry, and silver; rugs and carpets; books, manuscripts, and prints; and Old Master and 19th century paintings. Most guides include an informative introduction, advice on what to look for (condition, provenance, etc.), care and restoration of the items, history, glossary, and suggestions for further research.
