Doing Business on the Internet  Compiled by the Library of Congress, contains links to various helpful sites, organized by topic.  From the publishers of The Wall Street Journal, site offers a wide selection of business news and resources. Includes breaking business news, or view targeted news, research and resources for any of the 29 industries listed.  Additional resources include a markets wrap, news and links related to the US economy, and several aids for managing personal finance.

Federal Trade Commission - Consumer Protection  Addresses a wide range of consumer protection issues.  Arranged by topic.  Users can file consumer complaints online.

FindLaw Consumer Law Center  Users will find thousands of consumer-focused articles and resources in a number of different categories, such as Banking, Credit, Discrimination, Estate Planning, Family Law, Government Benefits, Health and Medicine, Intellectual Property, Investments, Labor & Employment, Personal Injury, Landlord/ Tenant & Real Estate, and many others. Also offers contact information for national consumer organizations, better business bureaus, corporations, trade associations and related organizations, as well as tips and guidance on filing effective consumer complaints.

Gomez Advisors    Consumers can obtain ratings and reviews of companies which deliver services and/or products over the Internet. All firms in an industry are ranked by overall score, ease of use, customer confidence, on-site resources, relationship services, overall cost, and "how well each serves the needs associated with unique consumer profiles."

Hypertextual Finance Glossary  Clean and simple-to-use glossary offers over 3,600 entries, fully linked to related terms.  Organized alphabetically with concise definitions, the glossary is an excellent resource for university finance courses.

Kiplinger Online  Provides personal finance guidance on the Internet. Users can find selected articles from the current and past three months' issues of Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine on topics ranging from investing to retirement planning. Users can compare the rankings of mutual funds (stocks and bonds) by size and return, consult a glossary of 101 financial terms and examine financial planning calculators .

Knowledge@Wharton  Offers "the latest business insights, information and research" on a bi-weekly basis including "interviews with industry leaders and Wharton faculty, articles based on the most recent business research, book reviews, conference and seminar reports," among other sources. The Knowledge@Wharton site is divided into subject sections ranging from finance and investment to business ethics.

Louisiana State University Virtual Library Business Webliography  Divided into ten sections, and particularly strong in agribusiness and finance. This is a selective directory designed to point to the best business resources available, and is specifically aimed at the research and education community. Listed resources are annotated.

MoneyMinded  Finance site aimed at women. Divided into sections on spending, working life, income/outgo, financial security, family goals and love & money. Each section contains articles and helpful guides on money management. Site's Investing section provides information on mutual funds, investment clubs, online trading and price quotes. Also includes financial planning calculators, a glossary of financial terms, and discussion forums at the site.  Basics for anybody on money, banking, credit, debt, setting financial goals, along with tools for calculating your net worth, your cash flow, what car you can afford, how much life insurance you need, etc.

Workplace Issues Today  Helps users keep abreast of current workplace policy news. Each weekday, reference librarians summarize a story of interest from major English language news sources for inclusion in the Workplace Issues Today (WIT) archive, and readers may search for articles in full-text from the Finding Articles page.

Company Information
American City Business Journals  Publishes metropolitan business newspapers in 35 American cities. Main site is linked to each city's web site containing selected news, information and commentary about local businesses. Most of the news on the site is directed towards small businesses. The Journal's articles are sorted into city and industry categories, and are fully searchable.

BigBook  GTE's Yellow Pages.  Sections include Shopping Pages, Idea Pages, City Pages, Yellow Pages, Consumer Guide, and  Classifieds.

Fortune 500  For those interested in top business lists, the Fortune 500 ranking is based on annual revenue. Also contains industry medians, top performers, and a CEO (Chief Executive Officer) list, among other features. Each company in each listing is hyperlinked to more information about that company.

Hoover's Online  Features an accurate and comprehensive database of company information free on the Web. Provides company name, key personnel, address, sales, number of employees, ticker symbol and other information. Also includes the week's top business news stories, a directory of more than 1,000 corporate Web sites, a synopsis of the 25 top-selling business books and links to other business information resources on the Web.

International Business Resources on the WWW  Sponsored by Michigan State University's Center for International Business Education and Research, contains an alphabetical listing of Internet resources listed by country.

PR Newswire   Users of the site may choose to view the day's 100 most recent stories, search by keyword, or browse by industry type, company name, ticker symbol, or state.

SEC EDGAR Database of Corporate Information  Database contains the electronic filings that corporations are required by law to make with the SEC. Includes company annual reports and prospectuses, among other reports, and are an excellent source of company information for researchers, investors, and the general public.

Thomas Regional Directories  Searchable directory connects buyers to over 480,000 manufacturers, distributors, and service companies in nineteen US industrial regions from the Greater Allegheny to Southern California. Users may search by product, service, or company name and view company profiles, street addresses, phone, fax, and Web addresses, when available.

Yahoo! Finance Company and Fund Index  Provides users with information on over 9,000 public companies, including contact information, business summaries, officer and employee information, sector and industry classifications, business and earnings announcement summaries, and financial statistics and ratios. Yahoo adds stock charts based on historical data, and links to other resources.

Investment Information
Big Charts  Provides free access to professional level research tools like interactive charts, quotes, news, industry analysis and intraday stock screeners.

Briefing.Com  Provides live market commentary analysis on breaking news events. Focuses on the important news affecting the markets, and provides insight on the possible implications for trading.  Covers upgrades, earnings reports, economic releases, technical trading points, market sectors, technology stocks, and much more, all from an analytical standpoint.

BradyNet  Provides stock prices for emerging markets, indexes and derivatives, news, discussion forums, technical analysis,  relative value analysis,  international commentaries,  and editorials.

CBS Market Watch  Sections include Front Page News, News Index, Data & Tools, Market Data, Market Monitor, Charting, Portfolios, Discussion, Trading Center, Mutual Funds, Personal Finance, Company Info, Investor Relations, and MarketWatch Live.

CNN Financial Network  Wide variety of financial coverage from CNN.  Site is searchable.

FINWeb  The primary objective of FINWeb is to list Internet resources providing substantive information concerning economics and
finance-related topics.  Sources includes journals, working papers, databases and links to other sites.

Holt's Stock Report  Daily stock report.  Archive available for past information.  "Provides a market summary of 29 indices and averages.  Also lists the most actively traded stocks and changes in foreign currency prices."

Investment Adviser Public Disclosure  The Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) has just announced a new Website that allows users to look up information about SEC- and state-registered investment advisor firms. Users can search for firms and pull up their most recent Form ADV, the form that firms file to register with the SEC or the states. The form contains information about the firm's operations, its key personnel, and disciplinary actions involving the firm. 

Investing Online Resource Center  An excellent starting point for investors seeking independent, non-commercial information on online investing. Features tips for protecting oneself when trading online and links to sources for ratings of online

Investor's Business Daily  Most of the story content of the daily paper is available, in such categories as Front Page, Executive Update, Computers & Tech, The New America, The Economy, and The Markets.  A searchable archive is available.

Invest-O-Rama  Comprehensive portal into investment resources online. Users can enter their ticker names and receive quotes on their stocks from six different companies. Also includes featured articles, investor tools, and links to financial news.

IPO Central  A Service of Hoover's Online and EDGAR Online.  IPO (Initial Public Offerings) Central contains a wealth of information on IPOs. Features a complete list of companies that "filed for an initial public offering of common stock on or after May 6, 1996, the first day that all US companies were required to file electronically."  The Insider offers short analytical columns on IPOs, and the Beginner's Guide has links to basic IPO information to help the novice.

The Motley Fool: Investing School  Provides amusing and educational investment information. Feature articles address topics of money management, investment ideas, and stock research, among others. Other resources include current stock quotes, news, and an intriguing "Fool's School" of how-to short essays and key terminology.


Silicon Investor  Provides market news and tools. Offers analysis, discussion forums, and customizable portfolio report. This site for investors has daily business and economic news, information, and advice. The coverage includes stocks, bonds, mutual funds, and tools for personal financial planning. A special feature is the economic sector and specialty "maps" which are graphic representations of market patterns and performance. 

StockMaster  StockMaster is a stock and fund charting service by, Inc. StockMaster provides a free portfolio service in addition to charts. Research links to company profiles, earnings histories, quotes, and news keep users up-to-date on the "most active" among stocks.

Superstar Investor  A comprehensive listing of the best investment sites organized by topic. Descriptive summaries and reviews of top sites are included. A question and answer forum answers investors' common questions. Charts and message boards for hot Internet and technology stocks are included.

TradingCharts  Provides free financial charts on stock market prices, market indices, and money markets. Chart data are updated daily, and a written technical analysis of market movements is given with each chart output.

Wall Street Research Net  Offers over 2,700 links to help professional and private investors locate economic data and perform fundamental research on actively traded companies.  The Economic Research section contains links to economic databases around the globe such as the U.S. Department of Commerce and the better university sites. The Research section contains links to independent providers of research to the investment community.

Occupational Outlook Handbook  US occupations are featured in this resource from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Users can browse an alphabetical index or any of eleven occupational clusters, or search the resource by keyword. Each occupation contains a thumbnail sketch of important features as well as information about the nature of the work, working conditions, employment, training, the job outlook, earnings, and related occupations.

Career Builder  Provides a rich array of jobs, career advice, columns and tips to get ahead in today's work place. Features include links to other resources and an Ask the Experts page.

Self Assessment and Career Planning

The Company Corporation  Provides guidance for the process of starting a small business.

Inc. Online  Electronic consultant to people starting and running their own companies. The highlight of the Inc.
